TOPIC: Integrating Designs that Support Biodiversity into a Landscape Design Practice

Presented by: Carolle Huber

What is biodiversity and why is it so important? In today’s world of decreasing insect and bird
populations, and increasing invasive species populations, we can all do better in our home
landscapes.

This presentation features real landscape plans showcasing sustainable practices that everyone
can incorporate into their own design practice. What are the impacts and benefits of our design
decisions on the ecosystem, how we can avoid negative impacts and promote habitat and species
conservation. Planting for ecological balance, capturing rainwater, and rain gardens.

Participants will learn techniques to design healthy, beautiful landscapes that work with nature
not against it, all the while creating beautiful suburban landscapes.

Carolle Huber has been designing landscapes for 25 years, working on large developments, subdivisions, wetlands restoration, green roofs, and residential design. As an environmentalist, it is important to her that our landscapes are environmentally sustainable and will cause no harm to future generations.  She holds degrees in both Environmental Science and Landscape
