ABOUT APLD

The Association of Professional Landscape Designers is dedicated to advancing the profession of landscape design and to promoting the recognition of landscape designers as qualified and dedicated professionals. Members receive a myriad of benefits and opportunities that support that core mission. Through volunteer efforts by those who are committed to its growth, APLD includes members throughout the United States who support multiple state chapters as well as individual international members. The association’s day-to-day management is headquartered in Harrisburg, PA.

APLD encourages all members to adhere to a code of professional standards, to actively participate in continuing education and to be current with state-of-the-art developments and trends throughout the field. The association also offers its members a certification program based on built projects that provides professional recognition to those designers who can pass a rigorous peer review program. It offers consumers access to trained designers who can help them achieve the landscapes they truly desire.

What is the APLD Virtual Chapter?

The Virtual Chapter is open to landscape designers who reside in areas not geographically served by a State Chapter, or who choose to join for the extra benefits. Virtual Chapter benefits include webinars featuring noted speakers, virtual garden tours, opportunities to showcase your work on the chapter website, informative blog postings, access to sponsors, and monthly gatherings on Zoom that provide both camaraderie and education.

The APLD Virtual Chapter connects landscape designers throughout the US and across the world so that they may share knowledge, experience, and their passion for the profession. Membership also gives designers an opportunity to socialize with like minded individuals and professionals.

As an organization committed to stewardship of the land, APLD is profoundly concerned about our industry’s reliance on a material that does not biodegrade, leaches toxins into soils and groundwater, is difficult to recycle, and is primarily manufactured from fossil fuels. A more sustainable product for growing, shipping, and selling plant material must be found.

To that end, APLD will work with stakeholders in dialog and collaboration to reduce the use of petroleum-based plastic in horticultural containers. The ultimate goal is to identify and convert to alternative containers that are manufactured with sustainable resources that meet the necessary performance standards. We urge all landscape professionals, organizations, and industries to join us in this effort.

Our chapter depends on a group of dedicated volunteers. Meet them & learn about ways to get involved.
