Webinar: Establishing Native Plants for Soil and Water Conservation

Join us on Zoom from 5-6 p.m. ET for the APLD Virtual Chapter Webinar.

TOPIC: Establishing Native Plants for Soil and Water Conservation

Michael Heller, PWS, will present on the mixes, methods and maintenance involved in successfully establishing native grasses and forbs.

Mike Heller is a lead environmental scientist at Foth Infrastructure and Environment based in Wisconsin. Mike has been working in the Midwest with natural resources since 1992 and specializes as a wetland ecologist and as a stormwater manager.

His experience includes managing wetland and stream mitigation, restoration and mitigation banking, and wetland delineations and Section 404 permitting. Mike’s background includes stormwater pollution prevention design and compliance, MS4 compliance and designing best management and post-construction practices.

Mike’s posts on LinkedIn show photos and descriptions of his work in the field. He has a deep knowledge of native plants.

Planning and establishing native grasses and wildflowers can be challenging due to the lag time between planting and establishment. This presentation will review planning techniques to establish native grasses and wildflowers utilizing seed count and blooming periods. Topics covered will include developing seed mixes, planting methods, and maintenance techniques that have led to the successful establishment of native grasses and wildflowers on both large- and small-scale projects.

We will use Zoom and will send out a link to all registered attendees before the event. The webinar will be recorded and downloads will be available for all registered attendees after the event.
