This webinar will focus on a landscape designer’s role in helping manage stormwater on a subdivision to a regional scale. Municipalities and Watershed Management Authorities (WMAs) have specific objectives when considering the impact of a development beyond the individual site at hand. Landscape designers will learn about how a blend of traditional and “green” stormwater infrastructure creates a network of stormwater management and how their design efforts play into this network aimed at reducing runoff and flash flooding. Understanding how smaller, targeted landscape solutions mesh with an existing or new development ensures that maximum stormwater retention and treatment are achieved. The City of Coralville’s innovative stormwater management planning has transformed the way homeowners and developers treat and manage stormwater, and will be a real-world application highlighted in this presentation.

More About Judy Joyce

Judith E. Joyce has over 25 years of experience in managing and completing environmental projects. She is a geomorphologist and a certified Professional Wetland Scientist with experience in hydrology, wetland science, and soils. Judy specializes in watershed planning, stream assessments, soil characterization, plant identification, and hydrological studies throughout the Midwest. Judy’s passion has always been to find ways to bring nature back into communities. Her designs achieve this goal not only by incorporating nature play areas but also by utilizing a variety of outside-the-box funding sources and partnerships. Her projects include stream and wetland restorations, stormwater best management practices based on natural system design, geomorphological studies, and evaluating land suitability for development. Respected by reviewing
agencies, Judy brings together federal, state, county, and local officials to obtain environmental clearance to keep projects moving forward. Judy founded EarthView Environmental, Inc. in 1998, which merged with Impact7G in 2018.
